Although I don’t actually like the taste of watermelon, it has always felt like a celebration of summer to me. Everyone in my family loves watermelon except me, so I grew up surrounded by it—loving its sweet smell and always wondering why I couldn’t enjoy the taste the way everyone else did. I still adore the scent. I loved the idea of someone holding a watermelon the way you might cradle something precious. It transforms an everyday fruit into a symbol of nourishment, joy, prosperity, and the simple rituals that make summer feel like home.
