Lan grew up helping in her family’s restaurant, learning that food could be a kind of love language. Her mother is a Black dancer from New York, and her father, who is Vietnamese and second generation, owns the family’s Vietnamese restaurant. Her specialty is pho — a slow-simmered broth made with care, topped with mint, bean sprouts, basil, and limes she grows in the garden behind the restaurant. Alongside dishes like gỏi cuốn, bánh xèo, and bún thịt nướng, her cooking brings people comfort, healing, and a feeling of home.
